And we're off...

It seems like a long time ago now that we waved goodbye to England and the Sellars wing of the family at Heathrow.

After a rather unpleasant flight to Dehli, a thorough encounter with the transit authorities featuring a lengthy search for the two lighters in hand luggage that had been missed by the snazzy Heathrow machinery, and a relaxed and short linking flight to Kathmandu we arrived in Nepal.

Delighted to be met by the friendly face of Auntie Deborah with a trusty taxi driver accompanying her we enjoyed our first views of Nepal from the windows of a tiny tardis-like vehicle crammed with bags and long legs!  A bit of explanation and initial exploration walk with Auntie Debs later and we're back at the McMillan homestead cosy inside despite the nippy temperature outdoors and looking forward to seeing Jessica later when she gets back from her friend's party.  We're already feeling very much on holiday and looking forward to seeing more of Kathmandu tomorrow, and more of Nepal in the coming days and weeks.  Initial views of the Himalayas from the plane were spectacular, and we had a great view as we landed into the bowl that a long time ago used to be a massive lake but is now Kathmandu valley.  Hoping to see the monkey temple, the Durbar (palace) Squares and plenty of Kathmandu city life in the next couple of days and thinking about our trekking and nature park tours for next week.  More soon...

Maiden posting

Well here we go - if we're going to explore the big wide world, then starting out by grasping the world wide web probably isn't a bad idea...  So just a few months after one of our more ridiculous adventures (this one confined to the River Cherwell in Oxford, but on a most unsuitable day - photo below taken shortly after that escapade) we are packing up to head off into the far beyond.

Getting very excited about the travels now, especially since injections are over and we are on to the more exciting things like shopping for the wee bits and pieces needed for packing.  Most of our travel accessory needs have already been provided by very generous family and friends as wedding, Christmas and birthday gifts (you know who you are - thank you!), so we will try to post regularly as we work our way round the world.  In just 23 days time we'll be in Kathmandu with Deborah and Jessica, so more from there in due course...
